My Girlfriend is a Zombie - Chapter 1019: Facing the Rampage of the Corpse Horde
Chapter 1019: Facing the Rampage of the Corpse Horde
“Ling Mo (Captain)?!”
Everyone interrupted him in unison. Ye Kai, who was just about to fight desperately, was still holding his knife, mouth agape in shock, unable to utter a word. Gu Shuangshuang blinked in disbelief, then ran over joyfully, “Captain, how are you here? And this place…” She glanced toward the sewer entrance, a hint of confusion on her face.
Ling Mo didn’t have time to explain. He managed a smile and asked, “Did you see Xia Na…”
“Wait a minute!” Mu Chen suddenly snapped back to reality, shouting, “Forget about how Ling Mo got here for now… The issue is, he killed those two people, so what about Ye Lian over there…”
“This…” Ye Kai was also stunned for a moment, cold sweat trickling down his face.
Zhang Xincheng, however, remained calm, saying, “No, think about it. This game targets only a few of us… That’s the game rule; the captain isn’t included in its count. And I think the captain’s appearance at this moment is completely unexpected for it. This is good; we finally don’t have to be led around by that Monster. A variable has appeared, and the game is no longer entirely under its control.” As he spoke, Zhang Xincheng even showed a hint of excitement… The others also breathed a sigh of relief, exchanging glances of gratitude.
Although the game had only been going on for a little over a minute, they had already endured significant torment… But soon, everyone’s expressions turned grim again. They exchanged looks and reluctantly turned their attention to Ling Mo…
“What happened to Ye Lian?” Ling Mo asked in a deep voice.
His heart was racing wildly, as if it might leap out of his chest at any moment… Could it be that what he feared while underground had come true?
Standing before him, Gu Shuangshuang lowered her head, avoiding Ling Mo’s icy gaze, stammering, “She… she…”
“No time left, let’s talk as we move.” Mu Chen suddenly spoke, pointing to the building not far away, “That’s our destination, and we have… forty seconds.”
In no time, Ling Mo understood the situation. Meanwhile, his psychic light cluster was intensely active, constantly sensing the whereabouts of Ye Lian and Xia Na. The deeply connected psychic tentacle silently flickered with invisible light, extending from his mind forward. It swiftly wound through the long alley, past desolate walls and the chaotic bushes behind, finally entering the building in view…
“Ye Lian is there…” Ling Mo immediately looked up, that was indeed their destination…
As they quickly approached, the full view of the building gradually unfolded before them. It was a structure that hadn’t been completely finished-or perhaps hadn’t been entirely demolished. One side was bare, while the other was a mess of broken walls and ruins. Surrounding it was a circle of blue iron sheets, blocking the entrances to the building. A sign hung at the entrance, reading “Under Construction, No Entry for Unauthorized Personnel.”
Such a building, even in the past, would be a place most people would avoid. But Ling Mo quickly noticed that this building, along with the Rosen Company, the building with the entrance, and the small building Yu Shiran had entered, were situated at four different points along this street.
Others might not have noticed, but Ling Mo had once looked down from the high-rise of the Rosen Company. Although he wasn’t specifically observing this building at the time, his peripheral vision caught it, leaving a lasting impression. Now, comparing it, Ling Mo realized that this was likely a genuine “cage,” a boundary marking the underground Monster’s containment area.
The Monster controlled five hidden entrances and exits-one for managing the Zombies, one deliberately revealed to the Survivor Team, and three for its own use. The last one was evidently the most crucial.
Ling Mo had crawled out from the one leading to its “study,” but what about this one?
For some reason, Ling Mo suddenly had a foreboding feeling…
“Hurry up!” He abruptly increased his pace, urging them on.
The Progenitor wouldn’t have anticipated his early escape, but that didn’t mean it hadn’t planned for him… The final exit, Ye Lian appearing there, the game unfolding around Mu Chen and the others… There must be some connection between these events…
Ling Mo could Sense Ye Lian there, but he couldn’t switch perspectives. He thought of the Progenitor’s ability and clenched his fist tightly… This was a very tricky opponent. Its actions couldn’t be predicted by common sense; the only certainty was that everything it did was to complete its final experiment… But who was its Experimental Subject?
Tang Hao was dead, Butterfly was dead, and the other three Survivors were also dead… As for the remaining ones, their whereabouts were unknown…
“Damn…”
Twenty seconds had passed, and just as the building loomed ahead, they suddenly halted.
Ye Kai clenched his fist with a “click”: “We’ve been set up…”
In front of the building was a semicircular open space… And in this open space, Zombies were densely packed. A rough count revealed about a hundred of them… Among them, the dozen or so closest to them had already noticed their presence, turning their heads stiffly, their previously vacant eyes suddenly becoming sinister. They were coming…
“No choice… Let’s go,” Ling Mo said as he charged forward.
The dozen zombies lunged at him, their mouths agape and claws extended, but each one stumbled and fell within three meters of Ling Mo. He didn’t pause, swiftly darting through the collapsing zombies, his gaze fixed on the horde of hundreds ahead.
“Using such a basic trick? You’ve wasted your time reading those books…” Ling Mo took a deep breath and stepped forward.
Watching Ling Mo head toward the open space, Ye Kai suddenly raised his knife, shouting fiercely, “Damn it!” and dashed out.
Mu Chen lifted his gun, following closely behind… Zhang Xincheng charged forward without a backward glance, and even Gu Shuangshuang gritted her teeth, calling out to Ling Mo at the front, “Captain, I’m coming too…”
The last one, Skinny Monkey, glanced at them nervously, then shut his eyes tight and charged out with a yell.
“Ahhh…”
With Skinny Monkey’s piercing scream, the zombies in the open space went wild. They frantically lunged at the humans, yet a path was continuously carved through them… In the blink of an eye, the ground was littered with corpses. The remaining zombies seemed endless, relentlessly trampling over their fallen comrades to attack the humans.
But the Miracle Squad was well-trained. As the situation grew tense, Ye Kai and the others instinctively gathered together, forming a human circle. Skinny Monkey in the center used his hearing to keep track of the surrounding zombies, while Gu Shuangshuang employed her psychic superpower to clear out distant zombies. Ye Kai, in close combat, was like a drill, frenziedly strangling the approaching zombies at the front of the circle. During the gaps in his attacks, Mu Chen, wielding a gun, would immediately step in.
Mu Chen turned a rapidly approaching zombie into a sieve, then kicked the overturned corpse to the ground, shouting, “Six seconds left!”
But he quickly realized that the reminder was unnecessary… Ling Mo hadn’t stopped moving, his eyes fixed on the entrance ahead. Zombies kept falling before him, some even freezing in place, waiting for him to pass by and casually dispatch them.
The others were somewhat stunned… Not by Ling Mo’s prowess, but by the chilling aura emanating from him… Even the inadvertent display of his abilities was overlooked by them at this moment. Rather than wondering how the zombies were dying, they were more curious about Ling Mo’s intentions…
He walked straight, unwavering, toward the entrance, the thin temporary iron door…
No one knew what lay beyond the door, but Ling Mo seemed completely unconcerned…
“You see…” Behind a crumbling concrete railing on the upper floor, a petite figure crouched there, peering through the gaps at Ling Mo below, and said, “This is humanity…”
In the shadows behind her stood two more figures. One of them remarked, “I don’t understand.”
“Neither do I…” The petite figure chuckled softly and slowly stood up. “But he always surprises me, which makes it quite interesting. Unlike the previous batch of humans, who were easy to control. I’ve been pondering ways to control humans… But now I realize that a single method isn’t always feasible. Actually, this human is starting to fall under my control too, have you noticed?”
“I don’t understand…” the figure repeated.
“Hehehe…” The petite figure laughed again, but this time she said nothing more. Through the gaps in the railing, her emotionless eyes were fixed on Ling Mo, who was drawing closer to the building, her mouth curled in an innocent smile…
“Bang!”
Ling Mo finally reached the iron door, and without a moment’s hesitation, he lifted his foot and kicked it hard.
As the door buckled and fell with a crash, Ling Mo’s shout echoed across the open ground: “Damn it! Get out here!”
No sooner had he shouted than he was already heading towards the building, quickly entering the ominous-looking hall…
Ye Kai pulled his knife from the neck of a zombie still howling, then glanced up and said, “Rare to see him like this…”
“It is quite rare…” Mu Chen was equally stunned…
